YouTube is a service that allows you to monetise both video and audio content in different ways. Thanks to their different sources of income, they can already be from advertisers and users with a Premium subscription, or from their Content ID algorithm.
To reflect these forms of monetisation, at La Cupula Music we classify YouTube's income into several channels: YouTube Audio Content-ID and YouTube Art Tracks.
It is important to note that the content you have distributed to YouTube through our La Cupula Music platform is only the audio of the songs, in no case the video. This is relevant because the way content is monetised is different if it is video or audio.
Below we describe the ways to monetise video and audio content so that you have more detail on how income is generated in the previously mentioned channels:
VIDEO Monetisation:
In the case of video, YouTube monetises the content either through advertisements or through subscriptions paid by Premium YouTube users. To earn income through Premium users, it is only necessary for one of these users to watch the video. However, to get income through ads, it is somewhat more complicated. YouTube imposes minimal conditions on content providers before they can start generating ad revenue. Basically, the conditions are as follows:
- Comply with YouTube Partner Program policies. (mainly not to upload offensive, violent content, etc.)
- Live in a country or region where such a program is available.
- Accumulate more than 4000 hours of viewing in the last 12 months.
- Have more than 1000 subscribers.
- Have a linked AdSense account. In order to do that, login into your YouTube account and follow the specific process to link AdSense accounts to YouTube Channels by clicking here.
AUDIO Monetisation:
In the case of audio, there are two ways to generate income through YouTube, the first is the Audio Content-ID and the second is Art-Tracks.
On our platform you will see these two forms of income in the graph:
- Audio Content-ID is YouTube's audio recognition algorithm, which scans all YouTube content to identify videos that include the audio you are looking for. If the video belongs to the same owner as of the audio, it does nothing. If the video belongs to another user, then YouTube allows you to claim part of the income that the user generates with the video (according to the two ways I have mentioned before), as long as he has used your music to get that money.
- Art Tracks, on the other hand, generates income through "cover" videos. It is about those videos that only contain the image of the track and that are intended to listen to the music through the YouTube Premium application but that can also be found through the web. These Art Tracks are automatically created by YouTube using the audio file that is sent through distributors, as in this case La Cúpula Music. When creating it, a Topic channel is also generated. While these Topic channels contain only audio, they do not have the same restrictions to generate income as the channels created by users (described above in the Video section), so they can generate advertising revenue without so much limitation.
